  1. Gaming addiction

Firstly what is addiction?? Well when a person has no control over what they are doing that is addiction and in some cases, it can reach a point whereby it’s harmful. In the beginning, the person would not even know if he/she is an addict. It’s when they try to stop and find that by stopping that activity they can’t function properly is when they realize that they are an addict. In this case we are looking at gaming addiction.
The term “gaming” is often related to males and thus generally when we say game addict, the first thing that comes to our head would probably be a boy sitting in front of his computer and gaming. Since gaming is not an exclusively male activity, females are also getting addicted to games today. Today’s statistics show that 60% of gaming addicts are males and the remainder 40% are females.
Although it’s proven that gaming have some good effects on people like for example playing fast phase games increases the human reaction time and playing strategy based games make a person think in a practical way when he/she encounters problems. But is too much bad??
The answer is yes. Definitely excessive gaming is bad. Some problems a gaming addict may face. Firstly the most common problem is the deterioration of the eyesight. Second problem, losing interest in daily activity such as schooling, homework and spending time with family. Third problem, the loss of social life, one prefers to be in a room with his pc and indulge in the virtual world and not the physical world.
Case studies and research shows that most of the game addicts today are people who play MMORPG games. One of the most famous MMORPG game is world of warcraft. Players get addicted to these kind of games because they play as a group and if they wanted to leave the game half way, they may get mocked by their friends and so they stick on with their friends to continue the game and soon because of this element, they get addicted to these games.
Furthermore, there was a case in the US where a boy took his father’s gun and shot both his parents because they took his pc game away and when the police took him a way he was holding onto his game thus this shows the impact gaming addiction have on kids. This is changing then into something that they are not. Furthermore gaming addiction also erases the line between virtual and physical world.
In the past gaming addicts were mostly teens. But now adults are adding to that number and some of them even leave their high paying jobs to game. This further adds on to the adverse effects of gaming addiction like families breaking up due to ones gaming needs and addiction.
Thus in conclusion I would like to say, gaming is good in some ways like helping us to think faster, make friends and it’s great as a hobby, but one should know when to draw the line to safe him/herself for the web of gaming addiction. On a personal note, I too was addicted to games and it almost consumed me. So here are some personal tips that helped me. Firstly you will have to accept the fact that you are addicted to gaming only then will you be able to find a way out. Secondly patience is virtue so do not give up and stick to the advice you get from counselors. Thirdly, keep yourself busy like outdoor sports, group studies or volunteer work. This way you would hardly have time to give in to your gaming addiction. This way you would stop feeding your addiction.

  2. Good thoughts and points Kabilan. The personal input part was good too as it added realness into your content.

To make it more credible, it would be good to quote some of your sources for the info. For e.g. where did you get the info on the statistics of gaming addicts?

It's a long passage. A summary at the end will round it all up nicely.

  3. In summary, gaming addiction does not affect people based on gender. people get addicted to games based on their environment. for example, if a person does not have much friends in the real world but have many friends in the virtual world, he/she would want to be in the virtual world as he/she feels more wanted in the virtual world. Thus the key is to make more friends in the real world and take the initiative to have a better social life.
